Celebrate

Today Pastor Dan continues the series "Real Success" with a message about God's Word speaking to us.

Scripture References:

Nehemiah 8:5–11 (NRSV)
5 And Ezra opened the book in the sight of all the people, for he was standing above all the people; and when he opened it, all the people stood up. 6 Then Ezra blessed the Lord, the great God, and all the people answered, “Amen, Amen,” lifting up their hands. Then they bowed their heads and worshiped the Lord with their faces to the ground. 7 Also Jeshua, Bani, Sherebiah, Jamin, Akkub, Shabbethai, Hodiah, Maaseiah, Kelita, Azariah, Jozabad, Hanan, Pelaiah, the Levites, helped the people to understand the law, while the people remained in their places. 8 So they read from the book, from the law of God, with interpretation. They gave the sense, so that the people understood the reading.

9 And Nehemiah, who was the governor, and Ezra the priest and scribe, and the Levites who taught the people said to all the people, “This day is holy to the Lord your God; do not mourn or weep.” For all the people wept when they heard the words of the law. 10 Then he said to them, “Go your way, eat the fat and drink sweet wine and send portions of them to those for whom nothing is prepared, for this day is holy to our Lord; and do not be grieved, for the joy of the Lord is your strength.” 11 So the Levites stilled all the people, saying, “Be quiet, for this day is holy; do not be grieved.”

Proverbs 3:11–12 (NRSV)
11 My child, do not despise the Lord’s discipline or be weary of his reproof, 12 for the Lord reproves the one he loves, as a father the son in whom he delights. And he does it through the word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16–17 (NRSV)
16 All scripture is inspired by God and is useful for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness,

Hebrews 4:12–13 (NRSV)
12 the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing until it divides soul from spirit, joints from marrow; it is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13 And before him no creature is hidden, but all are naked and laid bare to the eyes of the one to whom we must render an account.

Nehemiah 8:18 (NRSV)
18 And day by day, from the first day to the last day, he read from the book of the law of God….

John 5:39 (NRSV)
39 “You search the scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life; and it is they that testify on my behalf. 40 Yet you refuse to come to me to have life.

Continue....

Today, Pastor Dan continues the series "Real Success" with a message about continuing the work the Lord has for us.

Scripture References:

Nehemiah 6:2–4 (NRSV)
2 Sanballat and Geshem sent to me, saying, “Come and let us meet together in one of the villages in the plain of Ono.” But they intended to do me harm. 3 So I sent messengers to them, saying, “I am doing a great work and I cannot come down. Why should the work stop while I leave it to come down to you?” 4They sent to me four times in this way, and I answered them in the same manner.

Proverbs 22:13 (NRSV)
13 The lazy person says, “There is a lion outside! I shall be killed in the streets!”

Zechariah 2:4–5 (NRSV)
4 ……..Jerusalem shall be inhabited like villages without walls, because of the multitude of people and animals in it. 5 For I will be a wall of fire all around it, says the Lord, and I will be the glory within it.”

Overcome

Pastor Dan adds to the series "Real Success" with a message about God being greater than all of our enemies.

Scripture References:

Nehemiah 4:6–9 (NRSV)
6 So we rebuilt the wall, and all the wall was joined together to half its height; for the people had a mind to work. 7 But when Sanballat and Tobiah and the Arabs and the Ammonites and the Ashdodites heard that the repairing of the walls of Jerusalem was going forward and the gaps were beginning to be closed, they were very angry, 8 and all plotted together to come and fight against Jerusalem and to cause confusion in it. 9 So we prayed to our God, and set a guard as a protection against them day and night.

Nehemiah 4:1–3 (NRSV)
1 Now when Sanballat heard that we were building the wall, he was angry and greatly enraged, and he mocked the Jews. 2 He said in the presence of his associates and of the army of Samaria, “What are these feeble Jews doing? Will they restore things? Will they sacrifice? Will they finish it in a day? Will they revive the stones out of the heaps of rubbish—and burned ones at that?” 3 Tobiah the Ammonite was beside him, and he said, “That stone wall they are building—any fox going up on it would break it down!”

Nehemiah 2:10 (NRSV)
10 When Sanballat the Horonite and Tobiah the Ammonite official heard this, it displeased them greatly that someone had come to seek the welfare of the people of Israel.

Nehemiah 6:6 (NRSV)
6 ……..“It is reported among the nations—and Geshem also says it—that you and the Jews intend to rebel; that is why you are building the wall; and according to this report you wish to become their king.

Nehemiah 6:8 (NRSV)
8 ………“No such things as you say have been done; you are inventing them out of your own mind”

Nehemiah 6:9 (NRSV)
9 ………. But now, O God, strengthen my hands..

1 John 4:4 (NRSV)
4 Little children, you are from God, and have conquered them; for the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Nehemiah 4:10-12 (NRSV)
10 But Judah said, “The strength of the burden bearers is failing, and there is too much rubbish so that we are unable to work on the wall.” 11 And our enemies said, “They will not know or see anything before we come upon them and kill them and stop the work.” 12 When the Jews who lived near them came, they said to us ten times, “From all the places where they live they will come up against us.”

Matthew 5:11 (NIV84)
11 “Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me

1 John 3:20 (ESV)
20 for whenever our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart…

Pastor Dan continues the series "Real Success" with a sermon about committing ourselves to the common good.

Scripture References:

Nehemiah 2:13–16 (NRSV)
13 I went out by night by the Valley Gate past the Dragon’s Spring and to the Dung Gate, and I inspected the walls of Jerusalem that had been broken down and its gates that had been destroyed by fire. 14 Then I went on to the Fountain Gate and to the King’s Pool; but there was no place for the animal I was riding to continue. 15 So I went up by way of the valley by night and inspected the wall. Then I turned back and entered by the Valley Gate, and so returned. 16 The officials did not know where I had gone or what I was doing; I had not yet told the Jews, the priests, the nobles, the officials, and the rest that were to do the work.

Nehemiah 2:11–12 (NRSV)
11 So I came to Jerusalem and was there for three days. 12 Then I got up during the night, I and a few men with me; I told no one what my God had put into my heart to do for Jerusalem.

Nehemiah 2:17–18 (NRSV)
17 Then I said to them, “You see the trouble we are in, how Jerusalem lies in ruins with its gates burned. Come, let us rebuild the wall of Jerusalem, so that we may no longer suffer disgrace.” 18 I told them that the hand of my God had been gracious upon me, and also the words that the king had spoken to me. Then they said, “Let us start building!”….

Nehemiah 2: 18 (NRSV)
So they committed themselves to the common good.

Both I and my family have sinned. 7 We have offended you deeply….
